Patent Plaque Series Comparison Guide: Find Your Style

Every one of our traditional patent plaques starts from the same place—your patent, reproduced and honored in solid, handcrafted wood. From there, it really just comes down to a bit of personal taste: which era of patent history feels right, and what kind of craftsmanship you want it built with.

Six series are grouped by design era, the visual style of the reproduced patent document itself, spanning from the earliest days of the U.S. patent system to today's USPTO format. Four series are grouped by craftsmanship and format, the material and construction of the plaque, independent of which document style you choose. And three series are grouped by shape, a break from the traditional rectangle into an arch, a hexagon, or a pentagon.

Group One: The Design Era Series

These six series each reflect a different chapter in U.S. patent history, from George Washington's era to the present day.

Washington Series™ Historically inspired design honoring George Washington and the very first U.S. patent. The natural starting point if you want your plaque to nod to the founding of the American patent system itself.

Best for: Buyers who want the strongest historical and ceremonial statement.

Hopkins Series™ Named for the first individual patent holder, with a simplified, document-centric layout. A cleaner read than Washington Series, with less ornamentation but the same historical grounding.

Best for: Anyone who wants historical significance without a busy design.

Heritage Series™ Archival document styling rooted in early patent typography. Leans into the look and feel of an original 19th-century patent record.

Best for: Inventors and collectors who appreciate authentic, archival detail.

Liberty Series™ A formal, ceremonial layout drawn from later historical patent eras. More structured and formal than Heritage, positioned between the archival past and the modern present.

Best for: Corporate recognition moments that call for formality and prestige.

Allegiant Series™ Contemporary abstract layouts with a modern design sensibility. The first series in this group to break from historical document styling in favor of art-forward design.

Best for: Buyers who want a patent honored but displayed more like a piece of modern art.

New Era Series™ The modern USPTO-issued format, introduced after U.S. patent number 10,000,000. The most current and technically accurate document style available.

Best for: Recent patents, and anyone who wants their plaque to mirror today's official USPTO format exactly.

Group Two: The Craftsmanship & Format Series

These four series are defined by how the plaque is physically built—material, construction, and finish—rather than by document era.

Foundry Series™ Laser engraved directly into solid wood, with no metal plate at all. The most understated, minimalist construction in the lineup.

Best for: A warm, all-wood look and a lighter price point than metal-plate options.

Imperial Series™ A split-layout design pairing a metal-plate patent document with an engraved drawing panel. The most detailed and dimensional construction offered.

Best for: Buyers who want the patent drawing showcased as prominently as the document itself.

Patriot Series™ Patriotic, institutional plaques emphasizing national symbolism, typically finished with metallic seals. Built to make a formal statement in an office, lobby, or boardroom.

Best for: Corporate and government-adjacent settings where national symbolism matters.

Tributary Series™ Printed wood plaques offering a modern, lightweight alternative to metal-plate construction. The most accessible option for bulk or budget-conscious orders.

Best for: Gifting where cost-efficiency matters alongside craftsmanship.

Group Three: The Shape Series

These three step outside the traditional rectangular plaque entirely. Rather than being defined by document era or material, each is defined by its outer silhouette with patent details and drawing engraved directly into solid hardwood, with an optional laser, silver foil, or gold foil USPTO seal.

Rotunda Series™ An arched-top silhouette inspired by the rotundas of America's capitol buildings, engraved directly into solid hardwood with a foil or laser USPTO seal at the crown. A shape-forward take that still reads as classic and institutional.

Best for: A distinguished, tradition-conscious look for offices, boardrooms, and libraries.

Apex Series™ A hexagon-shaped plaque with patent information and drawing deeply engraved into solid hardwood. A beautiful geometric silhouette meant to suggest structural strength and forward-thinking design. 

Best for: Buyers who want a bolder, more modern silhouette than a traditional rectangle.

Keystone Series™ A five-sided pentagon plaque, engraved directly into solid hardwood, designed to convey structure and permanence.

Best for: Honoring foundational inventions or milestone achievements with a shape that stands apart from the rest of the lineup.
